REMOTE SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING PLATFORMS: MARKET, TECHNOLOGIES, ETHICS AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS
AIIC UK and Ireland Seminar open to AIIC Members and non-members, including interpreting students
- Last updated:
This AIIC seminar will give you insight into the worldwide market in Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI), focusing on the technical features of the platform solutions available at present. Those features will be explained from both the interpreter’s and the provider’s perspectives, taking into consideration the applicable requirements in ISO standards for simultaneous interpreting.
You will obtain first-hand information on the options open to the different stakeholders, and their respective responsibilities, including issues relating to liability; the aim is to give you a solid foundation on which to negotiate RSI assignments yourself.
A guided brainstorming session on ethical issues connected to remote interpreting and on AIIC’s Position Paper on Distance Interpreting will conclude the seminar.
The seminar will be led by Klaus Ziegler, Coordinator of the AIIC Technical and Health Committee. Klaus Ziegler has a diploma degree in interpreting from Heidelberg University and has been working as a professional freelance conference interpreter, consultant, interpreter trainer and translator since 1992. From 2012 to 2016 he was Professor of Translation and Interpreting and Director of the Master’s Program in Conference Interpreting at Munich University of Applied Languages. Since 2016, Klaus has been working as a private researcher and his interdisciplinary research interests include AV technologies for interpreting, including distance interpreting.
Klaus is a member of the ISO Committee responsible for developing standards for interpreting services and interpreting equipment. Within the International Association of Conference Interpreters (AIIC), Klaus is the Coordinator of the Technical and Health Committee, and a member of the Advisory Board, the Task Force on Distance Interpreting, and the ISO Group.
